Hi, my name is Jay Korza. I founded Helping Hands after years of teaching CPR and emergency care techniques to medical care providers. After moving to Massachusetts, I began working for a company that sent out CPR instructors to local businesses to teach the staff these life saving measures. The focus of that company was to cash-in on businesses that would pay high prices to teach just a few of their employees how to perform CPR and First Aid. But what about their families? Could their spouses or children turn around and save their lives? So I began to search around the Boston community to find other CPR and First Aid Training centers, almost all of them focused on the corporate dollar. The truth is, there isn't any REAL money to be made in teaching these classes to the general public. The problem is, you would have to walk into the office of a business that I taught a class to and have your heart attack or car accident there in order to get immediate help. (Remember: the key to surviving a heart attack is to receive CPR within the first few minutes. Ambulances don't get there that fast, I know, I used to drive them.) The General Public is where these things happen and that's where these classes need to be taught. I don't want anybody to get the wrong idea about our mission. Helping Hands does not want to exclude private businesses or offices from receiving this training too. Our overall goal is to bring CPR and First Aid Training to the whole community. Those of us who teach life saving measures need to find a way to deliver this training to everybody and not just those people or businesses that we can make a large profit from. Unfortunately it does take money to run a business and maintain the equipment necessary to teach these courses. The costs associated with this type of training usually keeps non-medical providers from taking the courses. And that's why Helping Hands is applying for a *Non-Profit Organization status. We are hoping that we can get enough funds through Grants and Donations to run our classes at extremely low rates. This will allow a whole family to learn these life-saving measures at an **affordable cost. We want to teach as many people as possible to help create a community that wants to help each other. This site is designed not only to help you get more information about us, but to get more information about yourself. We have a Related Sites page that takes you to many different medical web pages to help you learn more about health and safety issues that we should all be concerned about. All of our instructors at Helping Hands have been or are currently working in the medical field. Although there are a lot of good instructors out there who have never touched a real patient before in their life, we feel that only the voice of experience can truly prepare you for what might be one of the scariest moments of your life. Only experience can tell you how to deal with that fear that we all feel the first time someone's life rests in your hands. All instructors will have a resume posted on this site so you can see their backgrounds, current licenses, and history with Helping Hands. Student comments for each instructor will also be posted for your viewing. After all, almost everyone gets a referral before they take their car in to get fixed, don't you want one for the person who will be teaching you to save lives? We hope that Helping Hands can become a part of your family to help keep you and your loved ones just a little bit safer. Thank you for your time, I hope that this site is a benefit to you in some way. *As of 10/31/98, Helping Hands is filing all necessary paperwork with the IRS to become a non-profit organization. We are not now, nor do we make any claims, that we currently hold any other status besides that of a commercial business. If you would like to be put on a mailing list, we will notify you via E-Mail when our claim has either been approved or denied by the IRS. Back **Upon approval from the IRS to obtain a non-profit status, Helping Hands will immediately begin writing grant proposals in hopes of funding our efforts. Until that time, we will do our best to keep our fees as low as possible. Back |
